This image is from my “Odyssey” portfolio series, which features scenes that have been broken apart and reassembled into an abstract interpretation of the subject with an underlying geometric structure reflecting our desire to mentally dig deep into the surface of our environment to find its meaning. On 9/11 this year I was on this Florida beach at sunrise to capture images of the sea and sun. This was also the day the full Harvest Moon would be setting around the same time. I took these two photos within minutes of each other with the sun coming up in the east while the full moon was setting in the west. I decided to incorporate all the relevant data on time and place as part of the artwork as a reminder that the movements of the moon and sun have been used for centuries by humans as a measurement for keeping time.
