Look at this face! Who couldn't love this face? I found him hiding behind a tree on the side of The Globe Theatre in Los Angeles. The overlay of red dots is a conceptual mash-up of the grid of round medallions on the building facade and the red spherical "globe" on the marquee. This piece inspired a residence with Modern Multiples studio in which they invited me to make my first edition of silk screen prints. Built for impresario Oliver Morosco and designed by the architectural firm of Morgan, Walls & Morgan, it was used for full-scale live dramatic theater. It was converted into a movie theater during the Great Depression and later served as a Spanish-language movie theater. The restored marquee was relit June 24, 2014. The Globe is now a multipurpose space for music, theatrical events and films. Ink, bleach, acrylic, copper leaf, burning on linen. 48" x 36". This piece is painted in mixed media on a coarse linen, stretched over a wood panel. The corbels in the top third are burned into the linen. The variety of materials enhance and obscure the texture of the linen, much of which is left exposed, creating a unique surface that shifts in changing light. The linen wraps the edges of the panel.
